How to do Scan Disk in Windows XP®

This tool built into windows should be used every 4 months unless you are having problems then it should be used more frequently. Using this tip can speed up your system it does this by optimizing your hard disk by making sure all the files are in the correct place and not damaged.

1. Step one right click on the windows start button on the bottom right of your desktop. 
2. Then you will get a menu left click or select Explore.
3. Then right click on local disc C.
4. Then right click on Properties. On the top menu of dialog box that appears select or left click tools.  
5. Left click or select check now
6. Check Disk Local Disk will appear check the two check boxes on this dialog box.
7. Left click or select yes in the dialog box that appears. Then reboot or restart your computer and wait till the process completes. This might take up till several hours you can do it when you before you turn your computer off for the night.
